In this episode, we invited a Mongolian guy who lives in his car in the United States to talk. His name is B. Batjargal and he works at a “Start-up” in Silicon Valley. He has been living in his car for two years.

– Hello. When did you come to the United States? I found it very interesting to read about your blog about living in your car. First of all, let’s start the conversation with when and why both of you will live in your car?

– Hello. Thank you for the interview. As for me, I work as an engineer in a company called “Quartzy” in Silicon Valley. He has a hobby of making coffee and taking pictures. He first came to the United States in early October 2013. It seems so recent, but four years have already passed. Before starting this job, I got a 1999 Volkswagen Eurovan from the company and moved into it.

At first, I felt worried about the people around me, not everyone would take it for granted, they would raise their eyebrows and look at me with big eyes and ask a lot of questions. It’s not bad, either because I’m used to it or because most of the people around me already know it. With the development of electronic world and technology, people’s simple work style has changed a lot. For some, it may be a desire to get away from it all, and for others, it will give them a chance to change their routine and try new things. In connection with this, the number of people who live and travel in their cars and work, live and travel around the world with only one backpack has increased in recent years. Such a tectonic shift in society, driven by the curiosity to try and do things from the past, I started living in my car.

There are three reasons for living in a car

-Besides curiosity, was there another reason for living in the car?

– Yes. Western culture has a great ability to get out of its comfort zone. I was living a comfortable life at home, but I felt that I was getting lazier and monotonous with each passing day. Where I live, housing is very expensive. If we want to go to the next room, which is close to work, it will not be less than 1000 dollars per month. I’m not at home all the time, I spend most of my time at work, so I didn’t want to spend that much money every month on sleep. In addition, if you move to an apartment far from work, you will have to think about how to get between work and home. But there were three most important reasons. First, during this time spent with myself, I wanted to get to know myself better, and I still don’t know exactly what I want from life. Second, I’m a minimalist. Thirdly, I want to travel, work and live on any continent in the future. This is how I prepare myself for that trip by packing my whole life into one car. Packing my life into one car will give me many great opportunities.

– Where do you bathe?

– People often ask this question all the time. One thing I noticed from this question is that everyone seems to put cleanliness first. It’s very easy to get into the water. Even more surprising, he bathes almost every day, maybe only one day a week. I go to the gym, so I take a bath there.

– Where do you want to go to the toilet?

– Mostly at work. Depending on where you spend the night, it will be 00 in the morning. He takes a bottle in his car because he knows how. The first month I used it occasionally, but now I hardly use it anymore. Maybe it’s because the body and the style match.

– How about food?

– I almost stopped cooking. But there is a small gas stove and a small pot. Sometimes I cook soup on weekends. In other cases, eating out. I have a kitchen at work, so I eat breakfast there comfortably. Lunch will be taken from outside and eaten. Sometimes the rest is finished in the afternoon. I don’t eat after 6 o’clock in the evening. I’m not hungry anyway.

– How comfortable it is. Aren’t you tired?

– It may be an exaggeration, but in general, I sleep more comfortably than at home. Except for some very hot and muggy nights. I’m not tired, but there were times when I felt a bit uncomfortable and just wanted to lie down.

– How do you decide where to park your car? Pay for parking?

– There is a garden outside the workplace, so I park my car there. The weather is very nice here. There are many people who live in their cars. Sometimes you can park outside the gym, and there is free parking outside the big department stores. Sleeping in your car is illegal in California. Fortunately, sleeping in the car is not allowed in the area where I live. There have been many times when the police knocked on the window after spending the night in another district due to work reasons.
